The breeders of this litter are Kate Twain (Mariah's owner) and Clayton Heathcock (Mariah's breeder). Because we selected a stud dog who lives in New Jersey, the breeding was done by artificial insemination, using fresh, extended semen that was shipped from Newark to San Francisco on April 24. The actual AI was performed by Dr. Popkins at the Sequoia Veterinary Clinic in Santa Rosa, early on April 25.

Mariah went into labor on Thursday, June 22. After a restless night (during which she tried to lodge herself under the deck two or three times), she had her first puppy at 10:30 am on June 23. She was done by 2:00 pm.

Oona, Hadley, and Pearl had rear dew claws.
