In this photo you can see Kaya in the left kennel room and the puppies in the right one. The two runs outside these rooms connect by a gate that is open. Kaya can retreat to her room and not be bugged by the puppies because it is a high step to get from the concrete porch up to the dog door and the puppies haven't learned how to get in that door.
Here are the seven puppies huddled around the forced-air heater in thier room right after breakfast.
At about 10 am I let the puppies and Kaya out into the big lawn to play.
Here is Radar running with his ears flapping in the breeze.
The pups have learned that mom's milk bar has dried up so they don't bug Kaya about nursing any more. So now she can behave like a mom and teach them manners.
This photo and the next show how she does that. She puts her mouth over the muzzle of each puppy and just holds it there for a bit. The message is clear--you better respect me because if I really bit it would not be good!
