Angelina Spencer, age 106, passed away on June 15, 2015 after a brief decline in health.
5209Her love for her family and church was instrumental in her longevity.
She is preceded in death by Gorden A. Spencer, her loving husband of 58 years, daughter Dolores "Dody" Adams, son-in-law Charles "Buddy" Adams and son Edward "Ray" Spencer.
She is survived by her children Mary Menard (Victor) and David Spencer (Adriana), 13 grand children and numerous great and great, great grandchildren.
Angie was a very positive person, young at heart and quick to laugh throughout her long and blessed life. She loved to sing, especially when cooking her most tasty meals and desserts. Several family members were ready to join her in card playing, which was one of her favorite pastimes. She also loved working with her very attractive flower gardens outdoors and her special African violet collection indoors.
Angie loved to work for her church and, as a long time member of the St. Paul Altar Society, was a regular contributor to the periodic bake sales which other parishioners looked forward to. For several years she and Gorden co-chaired the flea market at the annual chuch festival. They would solicit and pick up items to sell from parishioners year round. The items were stored and Gorden would repair those that required attention. This effort became a very popular event within the festival and filled most of the school gym with many interesting items to buy. There were many parishioners anxiously waiting for this event to take place. This endeavor raised a good deal of money to benefit St. Paul.
When Angie was in her 70s, she became a long time volunteer of the Morningside Auxiliary and assisted in the nursing unit. She was also recognized by the Morningside administration for her work in organizing and conducting a large furnitiure sale in the parking lot that benefited Morningside Ministries.
The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the nursing staff and assistants at Morningside Manor in the assisted-living and nursing unit where Angie lived her final 20 years in a warm, caring and loving home.
Angie was devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and loved her daily time spent in prayer. She would always say "Isn't God good to me!" She attributes her daughter's (Dody) survival in an early illness many years ago to the miraculous work of St. Jude.
We are so grateful for her life and she will always be in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift in Angie's name to Morningside Ministries, 602 Babcock, SAT 78201 or St. Paul Catholic Church, 350 Sutton Dr. SAT 78228.
