Elizabeth Rutherford5157 ROCK HILL — Elizabeth Jennie Jemejcic Rutherford 88 died at Unihealth Post-Acute Center on Thursday Dec 10 2009.
Mrs Rutherford was born on July 21, 1921 in Croyle Township in Cambria County Pa to the late John Ivan and Teresija (Teresa) Rose Yersen Jemejcic. Elizabeth served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corp during World War II and was stationed at Oahu Hawaii. On January 9, 1946, she was united in marriage to Paul Cecil Rutherford in Morehead City, NC.
Elizabeth was a member of Mount Holly United Methodist Church where she had served faithfully as a children's Sunday School teacher, youth worker, Boy and Girl Scout leader, and in the Motor Vittles program. Elizabeth was an artist in many areas including quilting, basket weaving, tatting, crochet painting and as a seamstress. She was employed in the textile industries as well and Belk Stores.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband Paul Cecil Rutherford; her son and his wife John (Jack) Charles and Debbie Rutherford, her daughter and her husband Teresa and Fred Justice; six grandchildren. Alisha (Neal) Wiater. of Bend. Oregon. Aaron (Holli) Justice. Jennifer (Bobby) Shellenberger, Joy (Richard) Valverde, Cincy Rutherford and Ellen Justice; and nine great-grandchildren, Lily Wiater, Levi, Malachi, and Elijah Justice, Tess, Timothy, and Taralyn Shellenberger and Jacob and Elizabeth Valverde. She was preceded in death by her son Michael Paul Rutherford, who was married to Jeanne Rutherford.
Memorial services for Elizabeth Rutherford will be held at 3 pm Sunday Dec 13 at Mount Holly United Methodist Church with the Rev Dari Bradley officiating Relatives and friends are welcome to visit with the family immediately following the service in the church’s family life center In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Paul Rutherford Library fund at Lfount Holly United Methoist Church 1926 Mount Holly Road Rock Hill SC 29730
