Robert Byrnes Jones5024 Robert Byrnes Jones, 85, Bradenton, passed away May 22, 2014. Robert was born November 15, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Wyatt Jasper & Hilda (Schilling) Jones.
He was a graduate and a member of the Class of 1948 of Sullivan High School in Chicago, IL. He furthered his education by attending and graduating in 1953 from the University of Iowa with a degree in Business Administration. After graduation he entered the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lt. and served his country faithfully during the Korean Conflict.
After his military service he moved to Florida and started his career in hospital administration as the Assistant Administrator at the Holiday Hospital in Orlando, Administrator of the Morrow Memorial hospital in Auburndale, and Polk General in Bartow. Then in 1974 he moved to Manatee County to serve as the Administrator for L.W. Blake Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, 45 days after it opened.
Robert held many memberships including Ss. Peter & Paul the Apostles Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Rotary Club of Bradenton, Genealogy Club, Democratic Club of Bradenton, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and an active resident of Freedom Village where he served on the Safety Council, and many other memberships over the years.
He was predeceased by his two brothers; Wyatt & Terry Jones, and sister, Vanis Reilley, and is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Mary Ann (McIrvin) Jones of Bradenton, two dear daughters; Kathy (Wesley) Nall of Auburndale, FL, Suzanne Anderson of Columbia, SC, five precious grandchildren; Dr. Courtney Nall of Portland, OR, Dr. Ryan (Michelle) Nall of Gainesville, FL, Austin Nall of New Orleans, LA, Kathy (Jonathan) Tomberg of East Elmhurst, NY, William (Jessica) Anderson of Columbia, SC, and many extended family members and friends.
A celebration of Robert's life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 25, 2014 in the Auditorium at Freedom Village. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9:30 A.M. on Monday, May 26, 2014 at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Bradenton. Committal services will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the Lone Oak Cemetery in Leesburg, FL.
The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to either Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation,
memorialdonation@JDRF.org, or the Memorial Scholarship Program at Freedom Village in his memory.
