News reports of his death:
4862Word was received today that James A. Griffin, who lived a few miles north of New Albany, was found dead in the road a short distance this side of Howard City, this morning. Mr. Griffin was in the neighborhood of sixty years of age, was formerly a resident of Fredonia, and the cause of death was thought to be heart disease. We have been unable to get any particulars.
4863Found Dead. - From the Howard Democrat we learn that on Tuesday afternoon N. Church, of Cave Springs, found a man lying dead in one of the branches of Hitching creek, in the northeast part of Howard-tp., Elk-co. A wagon and team were standing near him. The coroner was at once notified, and in company with the sheriff, proceeded to the spot. An examination of the papers found on the body showed his name to Jas. A. Griffin, and his residence at or near New Albany. The verdict of the jury was "death from heart disease." Dr. Olney sent a telegram to Fredonia to G.S. Clark, as memoranda found on the person of the corpse showed he had business relations with Mr. Clark. The body was brought to Howard and placed in ice, awaiting an answer from the telegram. Mr. Griffin formerly lived in Cedar-tp., this county, and also, we believe, for a short time in Fredonia. He was buried in the Fredonia cemetery yesterday.
