Notes for Robert Melville Bradley Jr.
Robert Bradley, of pioneer family, dies4846

Word has been received that Robert M. Bradley, Jr., a member of one of San Bernardino's early pioneer families, died in Alhambra June 7, only two weeks before his 66th birthday. He had been in ill health for several years.

Mr. Bradley's maternal grandfather was Richard H. Curtis, an uncle of the late Judge Jesse W. Curtis Sr. His grandmother, Mrs. Laura Curtis, was a teacher in the San Bernardino Schools for some 35 years.

His mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Curtis Bradley, was attendance supervisor in the San Bernadino City Schools for some 25 years. An elementary school at Crestview and Baseline is named in her honor.

Mr. Bradley attended the San Bernadino schools and graduated from the San Bernardino high school in 1920. He then entered the University of Redlands from which he graduated in 1924. He received his law degree from the University of Southern California in 1927. In 1930 he married Helen Beattie of East Highlands, daughter of George W. Beattie who wrote the well-known history, "Heritage of the Valley."

Mr. Bradley first practiced law in Redlands and then was with the Interstate Commerce Commission where he was located in Minnesota for about seven years before being transferred by the Commission to Los Angeles. Later, he re-entered private practice in Alhambra, where he was active in numerous civic organizations. He was a member of the Lake Harriot Masonic Lodge No. 377, AF&AM, of Mimieapolis, Minn.

Surviving him are his wife, Helen, his son, Robert William Bradley of Santa Monica, his daughter, Barbara (Mrs. Paul Coffman), and three grandchildren: also two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Rosse, recently retired from teaching in the San Bernardino City Schools, and Mrs. Mildred Davison of Mammoth Lakes, California.

Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Turner Stevens Mortuary in Alhambra. Services will be conducted by Dr. Roberts of the Oneota Congregational church, of which Mr. Bradley was a member, and the Masonic Lodge. Interment will follow at Rose Hills in Whittier.
