Helen Louise "Lou" Martin4828 Helen Louise "Lou" Martin, age 62 years, six months and 21 days, Springfield, passed, away at 11:55 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 1995, in Primrose Place.
She was born Friday, Feb. 24, 1933, in Pocahontas, Ark., to Frank and Jessie Davis Lane, who preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. She spent thousands of hours as a volunteer for the following organizations: Council of Churches, Friends of the Library, Springfield Little Theater Guild, Juanita Hammons Performing Arts Center and SMMA and coordinated bus trips for St. Paul United Methodist Church members and their friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Ms. Cynthia Wheeler, Dallas, Texas; two sons, Selden, Toledo, Ohio, and Brian, Rolla; a sister, Mrs. Mai Cooperman, St. Louis; two half-sisters, Mrs. Jack Lygate and Mrs. Harry Mammen, both of New Orleans, La.; a half-brother, Clifton Lane, state of Oklahoma; and six grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Dale Martin, on Dec. 20, 1993.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. today in St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wilber Denney officiating and the Rev. Gary Thomas assisting. Burial will be at a later date in Thayer Cemetery under direction of Walnut lawn DeGraffenreid-Wood Funeral Home.
