Carroll Cullen Gates, age 74, of Marietta, GA, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2005.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, October 9, 2005 at the Winnfield City Cemetery with Rev. Lindsay Burns officiating under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.
Mr. Gates was born in Winnfield, Louisiana and lived in Cobb County, GA since 1970. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Gates earned his Masters and Undergraduate degree at the Louisiana College where he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and served as Dean of Students. He retired from Mercer University as a Professor of History. Mr. Gates was a member of the Southern Historical Society and the First Baptist Church of Marietta, GA. He was an avid gardener.
Mr. Gates is survived by one daughter, Leslie Gates Bofill and husband, Carlos of Brownsboro, AL; one son, Dr. Frederick Beck Gates and wife, Natalie Azerraf Gates of Weatherford, OK; and one grandson, Michael Prosper Gates.4638
