ANCESTORS OF TIMOTHY HAITHCOCK(by W.Timothy Haithcock)
The Haithcocks were early settlers and larndowners in Warren County. The 1784-1787 Taxables show 9 families by that name. (My) earliest confirmed. records of the Haithcock family begin with Thomas Haithcock born ca. 1810 and wife Matilda born ca. 1812. They were listed in the 1850 census as farmers, living in the Warren District of Warren County with their two children, Rebecca and Henry Clay.
Henry Clay Haithcock born 10 October 1846, married Angie Conn, died 31 March 1931. Four children were born to this union: John Thomas born 9 May 1871, died 21 January 1927. He was a farmer. saw-miller and store owner) . Wirt, a farmer, born 27 April 1873, died 9 January 1942. Hugh born 5 January 1876, died 1 November 1950 and Henry Grady born 31 May 1884, died 23 January 1955.
Henry Clay Haithcock and wife "Angie" lived on a family farm ard both are buried in Gardner's Baptist Ohurch Cemetery in Warren County. Henry 's favorite whitting knife, a family keepsake, is now owned by his great grandson W. T Haithcock.
Henry Grady Haithcock born 31 May 1884, died 23 Jaruary 1955. Married Kate Gilliland, born 7 May 1884, died 1 November 1971, daughter of James R. Gilliland born 1838, died 1901 and Willie C. Mosely, born 1866, died 1948. Willie was from Brunswick County, Virginia. (Kate's father James Gilliland served in the War between the states. He returned home with a Yankee rifle bullet still in his shoulder and declared the girl he would marry was not yet born.). Kate's three brothers: James Hawkins, Olarlie Harvey and Archie Van all served in the U.S. Navy.
Harvey and Kate raised their children on a farm that is now partly covered by Lake Gaston. Their seven children are Worth Bagley, Lloyd, Lois, Lena, Creek, Maynard and Lillian. In addition, regular boarders including school teachers, preachers and family relatives lived in their household.P. residirg overall ras a stout-willed Kate Haithcock.
Worth Bagley Haithcock, born 8 September 1912. Served in the 357th Artillery Battalion, Battery C, AAA in World War II. He was selected for an advance scouting party which was over-run in the battle of Bastone in Belgium where he was wounded. An avid qardner, he is a retired engineer for Duke Power Company and Leggit Meyers. He married Mary Edna Scott, born 20 April 1919, the oldest of seven children born to Emily Dodson (born 4 January 1887, died 5 January 1979). Edna is active in the 1st Baptist Church in Hillsboro and known for her rose garden, generosity and cooking. Her father Clyde Hays Scott, born 7 October 1896 is still an active golfer. He was one of seven children born to Jullius Currie Scott (born 1865, died 1942)and Jenny Terrell born 1859, died 1939). One of the Julius' brothers, Alex was a citizen of Goldsboro.
Worth Timothy Haithcock, born 8 November 1944, and Mark Bagley Haithcock, born 11 October 1950, are sons of Worth and Edna Haithcock . Tim attended Mars Hill College and transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he graduated with an A.B. in Political Science. For 3 years in law school he was a college master and earned a J.D. Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill law School. He was promptly drafted and served 4 years as an Army Captain in the Judge Advocate General's Corps. He defended 9 murder cases in Vietnam and while there earned a Bronze Star for Valor. He came to Goldsboro to practice law and became a partner in Braswell & Haithcock, P.A. in 1975 where he specializes in civil trial practice. He is a past president of the Wayne County Young Lawyers, and Goldsboro Jaycees. He is active in the North Carolina State Bar and on the Initial Board of Directors for the Goldsboro Family YMCA and Sunday School Teacher in New Hope Friends Church.
In 1976, Worth Timothy married Karen Wilson, dauqhter of Robert M. Wilson and Kathleen Griffin. Karen graduated from East Carolina University in 1973 and was inducted into Phi Upsilon Omicron Honor Fraternity. She was Miss Goldsboro in 1974 and 2nd runner up to Miss North Carolina. After college, Karen worked with C P & L as an Energy Consultant. She gives appliance and cooking demonstrations for various department stores, is an Elder in the New Hope Frierds Meeting and active in the Garden Club, Arts Center and Extension Homemaker Club where she is the President. Karen and Tim have two chi ldren: Worth Timothy Haithcock Jr. born 27 July 1977, and Troy Robert Haithcock born 26 April 1980.
