Chareles Gilbert Lay Jr. may not actually have been married to Marguerite Faye Burney. At the time of the 1930 census, less than nine months before the birth of Billie Charles Lay, he was living with his mother. There is no record of a divorce, so the child may have been born out of wedlock.
