Much can be learned from the obituary for Leonard Sutton... "When a child, his father and family moved to Boonville, Mo. About 1820, the family moved to Stout's Settlement, when all this county was a vast wilderness. There were but two or three families in the settlement. Their nearest neighbor was a family by the name Huff, with a large family of boys and girls. About the year 1834 Mr. Sutton married one of the daughters, who is still living, and who bore him six boys and four girls. The funeral took place at their old home, on Wednesday, Jan. 6th, at 2 o'clock, (1892) and he wa s buried near the home in their family burying ground ... " He died Jan. 5, 1892.
2140 Leonard's earliest land records show that he owned land in Sections 3, 9, and 10 in Liberty Township, the earliest dated 1833. The family cemetery could be on the property in Section 10, where John Sutton, Sr., owned land, the cemetery is not identified on the map. (See Sutton Connection.)
