However, the inscribed grave marker date of birth (1862), although in rough agreement with records for Henry Hathcock in the 2010 census (b 1859), 1920 census (1862), 1930 census (1862), or 1940 census (1861), does not agree with his age in the 1880 census (b 1871), It is very unlikely that his age could have been mistated by 10 years in the 1880 census—in that census he was reported as having a sister 22 and a brother 21.
