Nothing is known about this son. In the 1830 census, Peyton and Cherry had two sons and a daughter. In the 1840 census, Cherry was head of a household that included three sons and three daughters. We know the names of William and the three daughters from the 1850 census (Cherry Hethcock, Madison Co AL). We know the name of a second son, James, because Cherry lived with him at the time of the 1860 census of Madison Co AL. However, we do not know the name of the third (and probably eldest) son.

It is possible that this son was named John and that he was the father of Robert Jackson Hathcock (see discussion notes under Robert Jackson Hathcock, http://heathcock.org/genealogy/ps14/ps14_127.html).
