Notes for Martha A. (Spouse 1)
Martha Hilliard's name is listed at the end of the Cincinatus Harris household in the 1880 Mississippi, Marshall, County, census--designated as "mother-in-law." "Phil" is also listed as "uncle."
Greathouse Cemetery, in which Martha is buried, is no longer used but is kept in good condition by a cemetery association. Although some 60+ graves are conjectured to be there, only about 25 still have headstones. Most of these stones are broken; almost all can be read, however. The graveyard was formerly near the Greathouse Methodist Church and has been awarded an historical marker, which states that five Texas leaders--one of whom was J. M. Dawson, Baptist leader--came from that community.
