According to the 1900 Texas census (Vol 34, E.D. 27, Sheet 12), he lived in Ellis County. His mother, Sarah, age 51, his brother Monroe, age 18, and two cousins, Jack (age 25) and Edward (age22) lived with him. In 1910 he lived in Henderson County; in 1920, Navarro County. The 1900 census listed him as David D. Harris, the 1910 census as Dave, and the 1920 census as Dave B.
D. B. lived for a while in Downsville, Texas as a sharecropper when Ross was a child. One event was memorable: The people of the town hanged, dragged, then burned a negro man accused of raping a white woman. (Told by Chester Harris as told to him by Ross Harris)
