Descendants of these two men, who could have been brothers or first cousins, differ at one particular Y-DNA allele, called Y-GGAAT-1B07. Descendants of Edward Hathcock have a value of 11 at this allele, whereas descendants of Joseph Hathcock have a value of 12. Arnold’s value at the Y-GGAAT-1B07 allele is 11, so he is a direct male-line descendant of Edward Hathcock
