"Jesse Kimball served three months in the Revolutionary War as a substitute for his brother, Samuel, who had the measles and couldn't go to war. Jesse was discharged at New London by Captain Shapley in 1781. He also served three years in the Indian War. He was discharged in Cincinnati, Ohio, by Captain John H. Buell in 1792. He married Elizabeth Rowleson and they left New England and went to Henderson, Kentucky. He made whiskey but since he could not sell it to the Indians, the family was driven from their home and settled near Cynthiana, IN. Their oldest child married a relative, probably a cousin, Charles Kimball about 1813-14. He died in 1818, leaving a 3-year old son. Sarah then married Hullum Jones I."370

Jesse Kimball Sr. in May 1819 appointed guardian of John and Charles Kimball, sons of Jesse and Sarah Kimball, their father having died.353
