BENBROOK — Melba J. Parker, 78, passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, in Fort Worth.

FUNERAL: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Greenwood Chapel. Entombment: Private. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home.

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 1855 E. Lancaster Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76103.

Melba was born June 30, 1931, in Foard County. She owned and operated The Dance Shop in Fort Worth many years and was an avid supporter of the arts in Fort Worth. Melba was a loving wife, mother, Mimi, aunt and friend to all. She was an avid reader, loved her daily newspaper, trips to Shreveport, puzzles and spending time with her beloved grandchildren.

When she was a young girl, her father was in the coin machine business. From him, she learned how to repair all types of coin-operated machines. Together with her two brothers, they could fix anything mechanical. As a young woman, she learned to sew and became an expert seamstress. As a young mother, she was a neighborhood legend for her skills in preparing water balloons in the kitchen sink for the weekly balloon fights among the kids in the old neighborhood.

Melba was preceded in death by her parents, Horace Thomas Lambert and Ruby Mae Skipworth; her brother, Horace Thomas Jr.; and her sisters, Mary Frances and Dorothy Joe.

SURVIVORS: Her beloved husband of 53 years, Joe; daughters, Patti Pennington and her husband, Allen, and Jan Coleman and her husband, Darrell; grandchildren, Clara and Parker Pennington, Michelle and Alex Coleman; her brother, John Bee “JB” Lambert; as well as all of her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she loved like family.
